Warren Morse: Fire Chief, Highway Superintendent, Acton Class President Dies at 80

Morse died Sept. 8.

The following is obituary is from Acton Funeral Home:

Warren H. Morse, 80, former Highway Superintendent and Fire Chief for the Town of Boxborough, died peacefully, Mon. Sept. 8, 2014 at Bridges by Epoch Assisted Living in Westford. He was the beloved husband of the late Ann (Napolitano) Morse, who died in 2006.

Mr. Morse was born, raised and lived all his life in Boxborough, the son of the late Albion and Stella (Cobleigh) Morse. He graduated from Acton High School, where he was the class president. Mr. Morse owned and operated Morse Excavating for many years, and was one of the first firefighters for the Town of Boxborough, serving as Chief from July 1, 1973-1985. He was the Town’s Highway Superintendent for 28 years before retiring. Mr. Morse enjoyed spending time outdoors cutting wood and ice fishing. His favorite place was his camp in Northern Maine, where he especially loved the blueberry field.

He was the father of the late Warren H. Morse, Jr. who died this past June. He is survived by his children, Stephen Morse and friend Charlene of Maine, Brenda Nichols and husband Lance of Boxborough, David Morse and wife Joanne of Shirley, Scott Morse and wife Johanna of Stow, Lee Morse and wife Lisa of Lunenburg, and Warren Jr.’s wife Lynn of Shirley; a sister Phyllis Foss and a brother Donald Morse, both of Boxborough; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Albion, John and Roger Morse.

Visiting hours are Thurs. Sept. 11th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. Funeral services will be held on Fri. Sept. 12th at 11:00 a.m. at the United Church of Christ Congregational-Boxborough, 723 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Boxborough. Rev. Cindy Worthington-Berry will officiate. Burial will follow in South Cemetery, Burroughs Rd., Boxborough.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St, Watertown, MA 02472, or to the Perkins Trust, Perkins School for the Blind, 175 North Beacon St., Watertown, MA 02472.
