2 Bluebikes Stations Installed In Arlington; More On The Way
Less than a year after Lime pedaled out, bike share has returned to Arlington.

ARLINGTON, MA — Two Bluebikes stations debuted in Arlington Thursday, Sept. 10. The stations were installed at the Railroad Parking Lot and the Minuteman Bikeway in Arlington Center and Linwood Street at the Minuteman Bikeway.
The stations are fully operational and ready for residents and visitors to rent bicycles. Two more stations are planned to be installed on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Grafton Street at Mass Ave and Broadway at Grafton Street. These station installations are part of Bluebikes' summer 2020 system expansion, which connects Arlington with existing stations in Somerville, Cambridge, Brookline, Everett, and Boston, as well as other new stations in Chelsea, Newton, Revere, and Watertown.
The Bluebikes expansion will enable Arlington residents to use bike share to access other communities in the system for work and recreation.

Two additional station locations will be installed later in September at Mass Ave and Broadway and near Magnolia Field and the Minuteman Bikeway. The location at Mass Ave and Broadway is delayed until the completion of the Arlington Center Sidewalk Project. The location near Magnolia Field and the Minuteman Bikeway requires the Department of Public Works to construct additional sidewalk to provide a firm and stable surface for a bike share station.
The Bluebikes expansion to Arlington is supported by an award of $80,000 in Workforce Transportation Grant funds from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT). The grant requires a local match of $20,000, which was approved by Town Meeting on June 15, 2020.

The Bluebikes expansion is also supported by Lyft, the transportation network company that manages Bluebikes. Lyft is contributing more than $100,000 in bike share equipment to each new municipality participating in the program to assist with the start-up costs of the system. Blue Cross Blue Shield is a title sponsor of the Bluebikes system.
