Arlington Car Crashes On The Decline
The number of motor vehicle crashes in Arlington has declined every year since 2013, according to MassDOT data.
ARLINGTON, MA — There were 441 motor vehicle crashes in Arlington last year, the lowest total since 2007, according to data from the Massachusetts Department on Transportation. And the number of car crashes in Arlington has declined every year since 2013, when Arlington had 602 crashes.
The decline in the number of crashes in Arlington bucks state trends. Across Massachusetts, the total number of crashes dropped slightly in 2019 and 2018 after increasing in each of the eight previous years.
Since 2007, the furthest year back for which data is available, the town has had eight fatal crashes. Despite the drop in overall crashes, two of those fatalities came last year, according to MassDOT.

In 2019, there were also five serious injury crashes and 33 minor injury crashes in Arlington. No injuries were reported in 329 crashes. Of the 441 crashes, 93 were classified as "older driver related" and 45 were classified as "young driver related." There were 19 crashes involving pedestrians, 18 involving bicycles and three involving motorcycles.
According to intersection data from 2014-2016, the latest period it is available, the three intersections with the most crashes were Mystic Street and Massachusetts Avenue, Park Avenue and Frontage Road and Park Avenue and Appleton Street.
