Arlington Fire Chief Issues Warning After Spate Of Blazes

A three-alarm fire on Egerton Road Saturday was the third fire in as many weeks.

ARLINGTON, MA — Arlington Fire Chief Kevin Kelley warns residents to take precautions after a recent spate of blazes.

On Saturday, May 29, a three-alarm fire broke out on Egerton Road, displacing five people.

"It was the third fire in as many weeks, and I want to thank the women and men of the Arlington Fire Department for their continued diligence in how they respond and suppress fire," said Kelley said. "Although there is no commonality found from this fire with two recent fires, these incidents serve as a reminder to be sure you have good working smoke detectors in your home as well as having an evacuation plan."

Additional safety measures include having emergency phone numbers handy, practicing fire drills at home and ensuring the proper disposal of cigarettes. With grilling season underway, residents are reminded that grills are prohibited on apartment or condominium balconies, as well as anywhere above the first floor of any home.

Fire officials recommend that all barbecue grills be placed on ground level at least 15 feet from any combustible, such as wooden porches, siding, decks, sliding glass doors or open windows. They should also be protected from being accidentally knocked over by children playing. Read additional fire safety tips and frequently asked questions at arlingtonma.gov/fire.
