'Leave the Fireworks To The Pros' Says the Arlington Police Department

Misuse of fireworks can be both dangerous and illegal.

Coming up on the Fourth of July, let us keep in mind that fireworks are awesome, but also dangerous, as we’re reminded by a statement from the Arlington Police Department.

Fireworks of any kind are illegal to all but licensed professionals in Massachusetts, as they can cause all kinds of injuries, such as burns, loss of limbs, concussions, cuts, and of course, eye injuries. The statement from Arlington Police also points out that during the last 10 years, almost 800 major fires have resulted from illegal misuse of fireworks in this state.

  • Watch fireworks displays from a safe distance
  • Call 911 if anyone gets injured by fireworks
  • If you’re an adult, set a positive example for children by not using illegal fireworks.
  • Be careful around even the smallest fireworks. Sparklers may seem harmless, but as they can burn at 1,200 degrees,such is not the case.
