Attleboro Practice Reopens and Sets High Safety Standards

After 2 Million Missed Dental Appointments in Massachusetts

Amid the COVID-19 crisis and mandates to shelter in place, people have not been able to visit the dentist in Attleboro for routine checkups and cleanings. In fact, since the middle of March, when most dental practices closed for all but the most dire emergency care, roughly 2 million dental visits have had to be cancelled throughout Massachusetts.

Although often overlooked and underestimated, routine dental checkups and cleanings play a vital role in preventing painful and expensive dental problems. This means that right now millions of smiles are at increased risk of cavities, gum disease, and other serious oral health issues. Thankfully, this week, practices like Capron Park Dental will be reopening for most procedures, but that doesn’t mean it’ll be business as usual.

Capron Park Dental is working with other practices in the Boston area—Newton Corner Dental Care, Beverly Farms Dental, and Clear Coast Dental—to provide efficient and effective dental care to as many patients as possible while also prioritizing safe social distancing against COVID-19. Dr. William Herr, who owns and operates Capron Park with his partner Dr. Andrew Luccio, says, “We’ve always far exceeded safety requirements, but over the last few months, we’ve taken our approach to a whole new level.”

These four offices have implemented and invested in new health and safety protocols and technology that aim to set the bar far beyond the minimum guidelines established by organizations like the American Dental Association (ADA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). In addition to extra PPE for dental staff, patient appointments will be allotted additional time thereby reducing or eliminating the overlap and potential contact between patients.

In addition, each day employees and patients alike will have their temperature taken and asked questions about their current health. Private treatment rooms for each appointment with dental aerosol-reducing technology will help to keep patients and staff members safe. Plus, more hand sanitizing stations have been added throughout the office to reduce the likelihood of contamination among patients.

In total, these measures and so many others cost Capron Park Dental anywhere from $10-20 or more per appointment, but it’s a small price to pay for peace of mind. Dr. Luccio says, “We’ve collaborated within our huge network to share best practices along with clinical and administrative resources so that every patient and team member entering one of our offices can be protected.”

Across the four dental offices, a total of 48 employees are anxious to get back to the work they are truly passionate about—serving more than 15 thousand patients in and around the Boston area by helping them to achieve optimal oral and overall health with beautiful, confident smiles to go along with it.
