Attleboro Special Needs Student's Incredible Shot Launches 'SportsCenter' Campaign

#GetCarlyOnSportsCenter: Carly Paras' free throw during a student/faculty game sparked a social media campaign to get her on SportsCenter.

Positioned Wilt Chamberlain-style, Carly Paras stood at the free throw line as a packed Attleboro High School gym cheered her on. Clutching the ball, she swung it down to her knees then heaved it at the basket. The ball kissed the backboard, circled the rim for what seemed like an eternity, then dropped through the net. Buckets.

The crowd erupted.

“Good job Carly!”

Carly, smiling from ear to ear, raised her arms up in triumph.

It was an incredible moment—captured on video—and now the Attleboro community wants to make it even more special by lobbying SportsCenter to feature the moment on its ”Top 10” plays.

Attleboro High Principal Bill Runey started the campaign by tweeting a video with the #GetCarlyOnSportsCenter hashtag. It’s been shared hundreds of times.

Runey told Patch there was “pure joy” on Carly’s face after she made the hoop.

“I can imagine that if she’s on ESPN at some point that she will be proud,” he said.

Carly, 21, has Turner syndrome. She’s a senior at Attleboro High and will be graduating this year.
