Here's How Attleboro Students Did on MCAS Test
Younger students in Attleboro did slightly better than the state average, as opposed to the district's 10th-graders.
ATTLEBORO, MA — Massachusetts has released results of the latest MCAS test, which is used by the state as a guide to measure students' academic performance. Although Attleboro's younger students did slightly better than the state average on the tests, the 10th graders did slightly worse, overall.
According to the data released Tuesday, 55 percent of Attleboro's 10th-graders met or exceeded expectations in math this year, compared to the 58-percent state average. In English, 52 percent of Attleboro's 10th-graders at least met expectations, compared to the state average of 61 percent.
In science, Attleboro's 10th grade students scored 1 percent lower than the state average — 73 percent met or exceeded expectations, compared the state average of 74 percent.

In the lower grade levels, math scores that are slightly lower than the state average were seen in grades 3 through 8, but with two exceptions — Attleboro's grade 4 students outdid the state average by 4 percent, and grade 6 students did higher than the state average by 3 percent.
Overall, 49 percent of Attleboro's students in grades 3 through 8 met or exceeded expectations in math, which is 2 percent higher than they did last year, according to the data. This 49-percent achievement rate in math is the same as the state average in these lower grade levels for 2019.

In English, Attleboro's fifth- through eighth-grade students scored 1 percent higher than the state average overall 53 percent, as opposed to the state average of 52 percent, meeting or exceeding expectations. Attleboro's grades 3, 4, and 7 were the only ones to exceed the state average in English, while the rest of the grades either did lower or the same as the state average.
Attleboro's science scores for fifth- and eighth-graders were also slightly higher than the state average. Fifty percent of these students met or exceeded expectations on the MCAS science test this year, compared to the state average of 48 percent.
