ATTLEBORO, MA — More than 1,000 Attleboro residences were still without power late Wednesday afternoon about 24 hours after nearly half of the city was in the dark at the height of Tropical Storm Isaias.

National Grid said that 1,007 customers were still without power as of about 6 p.m. Wednesday as crews knocked down the number from nearly 10,000 without power due to the storm. At its peak there were 49 percent of Attleboro customers without power.

Attleboro was one of the hardest hit communities in Eastern Mass. as the storm raced through the western part of the state. The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency said 80,000 remained without power early Wednesday evening after a peak near 200,000 Tuesday night.

Isaias' storm track edged along the western part of the state near the New York border, but the storm sent powerful winds and brief but heavy rain east of Interstate 91. A tornado warning was issued around 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Clinton area after there was one in the area of Fitchburg and Leominster earlier in the afternoon.
