Teen Accused of Attempted Murder to Be Tried as Adult

Although the majority of his case will be heard in juvenile court, a 15-year-old Attleboro resident accused of a brutal attempted murder will be tried as an adult, various media reported Friday.

Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter announced on Friday that 15-year-old Brandon Bonin has been indicted under the state's Youth Offender law, which allows his case to be handed as an adult case.

Bonin is facing charges of home invasion, kidnapping, assault to commit murder, attempted murder, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60 years old.

Attleboro police say the victim was startled to find Bonin in her home at approximately 10 p.m. on March 6. He attacked her with a knife, then drove the woman to a pond near the Seekonk line where he attempted to drown her, police say. Next, Bonin drove the woman to a third location where he tried to clog the vehicle's tailpipe with an article of clothing in an attempt to asphyxiate the woman while she was in the car, police say.

During the attempted asphyxiation, the woman managed to drive from the scene, and arrived at Sturdy Memorial Hospital, where she contacted police. Bonin was arrested shortly after this. The victim's injuries were not life threatening, police say.

Bonin is scheduled to appear in court again Tuesday.
