BACK BAY, MA — An off-duty Boston firefighter helped chase down a crow-bar wielding man he said he saw attempting to break into his car.

Sunday morning as the firefighter was leaving the firehouse on Boylston Street and walking to his car he saw a man using a crowbar to try and break into his car, which was parked near the corner of Edgerly Road and Stoneholm Street, he later told police. The off-duty firefighter then asked the man what he was doing, prompting the man to run off with the crowbar. The off duty firefighter and two other firefighters ran after him.

During the chase, the man with the crowbar stopped and swung at one of the firefighters, just missing his head, according to police. The chase continued and at one point someone called police. Officers were able to detain the man and the crowbar around 9 a.m.
