Boston to Ramp Up Security Measures for Fourth Of July

Thousands are expected to flock to the annual celebration at the Esplanade this weekend.

Law enforcement officials will be on high alert for Boston’s Fourth of July celebration at the Esplanade, according to Mayor Marty Walsh.

Thousands are expected to flock to the annual celebration. Police are planning to be extremely vigilant in order to ensure the safety of all in attendance.

In wake of the 2013 attack at the Boston Marathon, Mayor Marty Walsh says not a chance can be taken at events of such magnitude.

“There was a briefing last week with state police, BPD, the MBTA and public safety all on the state level and we talked about security,” Walsh said. “Every event like the marathon or Fourth of July is high intensity.”

The risk of ISIS and other possible attacks is of great concern, not to mention the recent terror-related attack in Tunisia.

Many are also concerned after a suspected terrorist was shot and killed in Boston earlier this month.

“What happened here in Boston a couple of weeks ago with the FBI and Boston police working so quickly and what they did, I feel comfortable that we’ll have a safe night,” Walsh said.

Those heading to the Esplanade must be ready to cooperate with the security checks, Walsh stressed. Walsh said more focus will be placed on the contents inside of bags those bring along with them.

“Unfortunately the world has changed and we have to be more diligent,” Walsh concluded.
