Fire at Back Bay Brownstone Causes $900K in Damage

The fire broke out in a brownstone that houses a restaurant, an art gallery and apartment units.

BACK BAY, BOSTON, MA — Firefighters responded to a fire at a four-story brownstone in Back Bay Sunday evening that left a considerable amount of damage.

Firefighters responded to the scene in the 200 block of Newbury Street around 6:20 p.m. to find the fire in the first floor of the building, the Boston Fire Department said. The blaze extended to the second floor of the building and second-alarm was ordered shortly thereafter.

The heavy fire has been extinguished and firefighters remained on scene checking for hot spots. So far, no injuries have been reported.

The basement of the building houses a walk-in restaurant while the first floor serves as an art gallery. Damage is estimated at $900,000.

Fire investigators are on scene to determine the cause of the fire.
