Fire Closes Trident Booksellers Temporarily

It's mostly water damage, but no word on when they'll be reopened.

BOSTON, MA — A fire late Wednesday night forced Trident Booksellers on Newbury Street to close temporarily, the bookstore and cafe - which has been in that spot since 1984 and renovated in recent years- announced on its website.

"Due to fire, we will be temporarily closed. Please check back for updates," the post read.

Bookstore manager Courtney Flynn told the Boston Globe that the fire broke out in the storage area on the second floor about 11:45 p.m. Wednesday. She said everyone in the store was evacuated, and firefighters responded quickly.

There's still no word on just what caused the fire, but it was put out quickly and most of the damage came from the sprinkler system water, according to the Globe.

But some events scheduled for the next couple weeks have had to move venues. The Brookline Booksmith is helping with that.

Dozens of people took to Facebook to offer condolences and help to to the Bookstore after the store posted the news.
