Hynes Convention Evacuated, Hundreds Pour Out Onto Boylston

Alarms went off just after 10:45 a.m., according to convention goers. But the program at a Geoscience convention was back on 30 min later.

BOSTON, MA — If you were wondering why Boylston Street was flooded with geoscientists this morning; It's because firefighters were called to the Hynes Convention Center and hundreds of people were evacuated the 193,000 square ft building during the annual, international conference on geochemistry and related subjects, organised by the Geochemical Society and the European Association of Geochemistry.

Alarms went off just before 10:45 a.m. and presentations were interrupted as convention goers made their way out to Boylston Street. But the lectures and all things geochemistry were back on track 30 minutes later, according to the Gold Schmidt Conference website.

No word yet on just what caused the alarms. Come back here for more as we update.
