John Hancock To Say Goodbye To Seaport, Hello Again To Back Bay
John Hancock is returning its headquarters back to the Back Bay.

BACK BAY, MA — For John Hancock, the Seaport is so yesterday. The insurance company giant with more than 3,000 employees is moving back to the Back Bay by the end of the year, the Boston Business Journal first reported.
“It was critically important to me to bring our Boston based employees together in one location to enable more effective collaboration across functions,” CEO Marianne Harrison wrote in a memo to employees.
Hancock moved to the headquarters to the Seaport in 2004, but kept some 2,000 employees in the Back Bay. The new offices are slated to be located at 197 Clarendon St. and 200 Berkeley St. As for the 465,000-square-foot Seaport tower? They're still deciding what to do with it.

Wait, don't they have their own tower, anyway? Had. The building formerly known as the Hancock Tower is now technically called 200 Clarendon.
Hancock has also gotten approval to build a 26-story tower at 380 Stuart St. in Back Bay, but Boston Business Journal reports John Hancock is still deciding whether to develop the property for itself or for another tenant.
