LETTER: Farewell From Your Back Bay Patch Editor

Back Bay Patch Editor Jake O'Donnell says goodbye and thank you.

Dear readers,

I write to you today with a bittersweet message: Today is my final day as the local editor of Back Bay Patch.

As many of you may be aware, Patch is undergoing major nationwide reorganization, and my job was one of those impacted by the reorganization.

I already have a new writing job lined up in the local area that I’m excited to start next week. But it’s difficult to say goodbye to Patch after devoting over two years of my life to this company.

I regret that my time covering Back Bay and nearby Beacon Hill  didn’t last as long as I’d hoped. I started here five months ago (after spending nearly two years as the editor of first Salem N.H., Patch and later Medford Patch) and in that time I met some great people, covered exciting happenings locally and perhaps best of all, this bustling part of Boston got to be my office just about everyday.

I started here about one month after the Boston Marathon bombings and what struck me most about covering this area was the resiliency of residents and businesses in the face of such a horrific tragedy. One of my favorite events I covered during this time was the reopening of the Forum restaurant on Boylston Street in August, which turned into a joyous celebration for a community that had come back better than ever.

Even though I will be leaving Back Bay Patch, the website itself isn’t going anywhere. You will still get local, regional and national news and information here. Part of what will continue to make it a great place for that information is you. I invite you to post your news, announcements, events, blogs and other info on the site directly. It’s very easy and I hope you will take advantage of everything Patch has to offer.

After today, inquiries about the site should be sent to either Roberto Scalese at roberto@patch.com or to backbay@patch.com.

I want to thank you all for your continued readership of Patch. It was an honor to be your local editor and I sincerely hope Patch continues to be the place you come for the latest Back Bay news.

Sincerely,

Jake O’Donnell
