Mass. Ave. Bridge At Comm. Ave Closed This Weekend
This is expected to be the final closures until the full bridge replacement in May.

BOSTON, MA — Drivers are being warned to avoid the bridge on Mass. Ave. at Comm. Ave. this weekend for construction. Mass. Ave. will be closed in both directions in the area from 7 a.m. Saturday until 7 p.m. Sunday. The Comm. Ave. bypass roads under the bridge will also be closed.
Parking will not be permitted along the detour routes. You can see parking restrictions on this flyer.
The work is to removes asbestos material in the bridge structure that was not visible until construction began.

The nearly two full days of closures is preferential to what would be three weeks of lane closures between now and the full bridge replacement in May. A public meeting on that four-day closure is planned for March 21.

Vehicle Detour Routes (see the detour map):

- Northbound Detour Route: From Massachusetts Avenue, vehicles traveling northbound will turn right onto Boylston Street and then turn left onto Hereford Street. Continue on Hereford Street, turn left onto Beacon Street, and then turn right onto Massachusetts Avenue to continue northbound.
- Southbound Detour Route: From Massachusetts Avenue, vehicles traveling southbound will turn right onto Beacon Street, turn left onto Charlesgate West, and then left onto Commonwealth Avenue. Continue on Commonwealth Avenue and bear right at the closed bypass roadway using the surface roadway to reach Massachusetts Avenue and turn right to continue southbound.
Bicyclist and Pedestrian Detour Route (see the detour map):
- Through bicycle and pedestrian traffic should use the crossings at Charlesgate East and Hereford Street.
