Massive Water Main Break Floods Back Bay
At least six building were evacuated as parts of Commonwealth Ave. and other streets were submerged.

BOSTON, MA — A water main break flooded part of Back Bay Monday late night. At least six buildings were evacuated in the area of Commonwealth Ave., the Boston Fire Department said around 11 p.m.

The break occurred around 9:40 p.m. When the water cleared, large holes and cracks were in the asphalt.

Parts of Commonwealth Ave. and Exeter Street were submerged for roughly two hours, with water making its way onto Newbury Street. Police were asking drivers to avoid the area.
Workers were against the clock to get the mess under control. Temperatures dipped to around freezing overnight.
