Missing Dog Spotted Running On Mass. Pike

Monday a dog was spotted running along the Mass Pike for a few minutes before making his way off. Police are still looking for him.

BOSTON, MA — Monday a dog went missing at 280 Commonwealth Avenue in the Back Bay. A passerby saw it around Mountfort Street and then - he somehow made his way to the Mass Pike. Police, animal control officers and pet lovers are asking for the public's help in finding Indy, who is new to the Boston area.

A number of drivers called 911 to report a dog that matched Indy's description, white with some brown markings and about was running down the highway headed east as horrified passengers and drivers watched and hoped for the best, as evidenced by a video one couple posted to YouTube. The doggie seemed to bring out the best in Mass Pike drivers, though. A number of cars slowed down and it seemed tried to corral the wayward pup to the side of the highway. The video (below) shows one man running along side another car opens its door at one point in an apparent attempt to coax the dog. The sound of honking or questioning why the slow down is not heard on the video.

But after about 3 minutes of video the dog suddenly cuts across the Westbound lanes jumps the barrier and then cuts across Eastbound traffic before heading into some trees along that side of the Pike. Gasps (and other expletives) are audible on the video as the dog does this.
