
1. DCR art contest: The Department of Conservation and Recreation is seeking artists to paint wildlife and landscape scenes on 99 Iron Rangers, the narrow metal contribution containers located in parks across the state. Donations placed in the Iron Rangers directly benefit the state parks. Artists' proposals must be submitted by April 26. Selected artists will be notified by May 1, and the work must be completed by Aug. 30. Submissions should be sent to Sharon Hoey, Department of Conservation and Recreation, Suite 600, 251 Causeway St., Boston, MA 02114.
2. Greenovate deadline extended: Mayor Menino today has extended the deadline for nominations for the 2013 Mayor’s Greenovate Boston Awards and Bike Friendly Business Awards to midnight, March 29. These awards recognize local sustainability and environmental awareness leaders in four different categories – Green Business, Green Residential, Sustainable Food Leadership and Bike Friendly Businesses. 3. Connolly kickoff: Boston City Councilor John Connolly kicks off his campaign for Mayor of Boston. The kickoff will be held at the Omni Parker House located at 60 School St. in downtown Boston. 6:30-10 p.m.

4. Aquarium lecture: The New England Aquarium (1 Central Wharf) will host a free lecture today at 7 p.m. about the book “Race France to France: Leave Antarctica to Starboard” by Rich Wilson, which looks at the Vendée Globe nautical race. A book signing will follow. This event is open to the public and is part of the Aquarium’s free lecture series. Events will be held in the Aquarium's Harborside Learning Lab.
5. Possible snow: The likelihood for snow will increase throughout the day to a 50 percent chance by late afternoon, but with little to no accumulation. The high should be about 38 degrees.
