Police Respond to Report of Stabbing at Library; One Arrested

Victim says he was struck in back of the head with blunt object.

Things got physical at the Boston Public Library on Tuesday, after a man said he was struck in the head when he refused to give up his laptop computer.

Police arrested Joseph Whalen, 66, of Yarmouth, and charged him with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon when they recovered a small pocket knife from his backpack. 

The incident occurred at 4:46 p.m. According to the report, the victim said he was working on his laptop when a while male approached him, looked at his laptop and said, 'Give me that!'

The man said he refused and left the library, but was hit in the back of the head. Police saw a laceration in the back of his head, and he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
