27% Of Barnstable Residents Received At Least 1 Vaccine Dose

BARNSTABLE, MA — Over a quarter of Barnstable's nearly 45,000 residents have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, according to new state data released Thursday.

The state's vaccine rollout prioritizing the most vulnerable residents is bearing fruit in Barnstable, where those 75 or older have received the most vaccinations despite making up just 11 percent of the town's population. Seventy-five percent of those 75+ have received at least one dose, while 41 percent of them are fully vaccinated.

Fifty-two percent of those 65-74 have received at least one dose while 12 percent are fully vaccinated. That group only makes up 14 percent of all the fully vaccinated people in Barnstable, a number far outpaced by the 30-49 and 50-64 age groups.

Overall, 12,204 of 44,773 residents in Barnstable have received at least one dose and 6,049 are fully vaccinated.

The Department of Public Health also released town-by-town coronavirus metrics, which showed slight upticks in the coronavirus metrics, although Barnstable remained a moderate risk community.

The positive test rate rose from 4.01 percent to 4.99 percent, while the average daily incidence rate per 100,000 was 28.7

There were 180 confirmed cases in the past two weeks, bringing the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 3,094.
