32% Of Barnstable Residents Received At Least 1 Vaccine Dose

82 percent of Barnstable residents over 75 have received at least one vaccine dose, according to state data.

BARNSTABLE, MA — Nearly a third of Barnstable's 45,000 residents have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, according to new state data released Thursday.

The state's vaccine rollout prioritizing the most vulnerable residents is bearing fruit in Barnstable, where those 75 or older have received the second largest share of vaccinations despite making up just 11 percent of the town's population. Eighty-two percent of those 75+ have received at least one dose, while 41 percent of them are fully vaccinated.

Residents in the 65-74 category have received the most vaccines in town, according to state data, with 4,629 residents in that age group having been vaccinated.

Overall, 14,390 of 44,773 residents in Barnstable have received at least one dose and 7,979 are fully vaccinated.

The Department of Public Health also released town-by-town coronavirus metrics, which showed spikes in key coronavirus metrics. The uptick moved Barnstable back into the state's high-risk designation for COVID-19 spread.

The town's positive test rate over the last two weeks spiked to 7.49 percent, up from 4.99 percent in last week's report.

There were 283 cases in the last two weeks. According to the state, 3,283 Barnstable residents have tested positive for the virus since the beginning of the pandemic.
