WEST YARMOUTH, MA — Live music is back on Cape Cod, and a new venue in West Yarmouth will celebrate its return with an intimate performance from a platinum selling songwriter.

Tony Award nominee Ann Hampton Callaway will perform her one-woman Barbara Streisand set at The Music Room Gallery and Wine Bar on Tuesday, July 13.

Callaway wrote songs on seven of Streisand's albums, including two songs on the 1997 CD "Higher Ground," which went on to sell six million copies. She said getting to know Streisand has been a privilege she doesn't take for granted. And despite having hung out, wrote and performed with the music legend, Callaway said Streisand is still the only person in show business she's a little intimated by.

For Callaway, this show is about celebrating Streisand's five-decade career, but it's also about much more. The show is about expressing through music, the story of how Callaway's role model became her mentor.

"It's really wonderful to get to share the stories about how these miracles take place," Callaway said.

The night will also feature Callaway putting her own unique, jazzy twist on some of Streisand's biggest hits, some Broadway classics and other artists she loves. One Streisand song Callaway said she's excited to experiment with is "Evergreen."

"Would it be fun to turn it into a Frank Sinatra version?" Callaway pondered.

Callaway said she's also excited to return to Cape Cod, a place she's always loved performing in and visiting — especially in Provincetown.

"We have so many friends there, and spending time there is so much of a joy," Callaway said. "There's good shopping, beaches and fellow performers. People tend to have a certain sense of heightened reaction to shows there."

Callaway said she's performed in Provincetown several times, so visiting West Yarmouth will be a new experience for her. She said she's excited to perform at the Music Room Gallery and see all of what that part of the Cape has to offer.

Tickets for the show start at $45 and are available on the venue's website.
