Barnstable Jumps Back To High Risk For Coronavirus: State Report

There were 283 new coronavirus cases in Barnstable over the last two weeks.

BARNSTABLE, MA — Barnstable's positive coronavirus test rate rose again since last week, causing the town to move back into the high-risk, or red designation, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

The town's positive test rate over the last two weeks spiked to 7.49 percent, up from 4.99 percent in last week's report.

There were 283 cases in the last two weeks. According to the state, 3,283 Barnstable residents have tested positive for the virus since the beginning of the pandemic.

Massachusetts labeled 20 communities as high risk for the coronavirus Thursday in the latest town-by-town report from the Department of Public Health, up from 14 the week before.

The seven-day average positive test rate for the state rose to 1.93 percent, up from 1.79 percent a week prior. Statewide case counts, hospitalizations and deaths continued to fall.

The state reported 1,857 coronavirus cases, 27 deaths and 62,532 vaccine doses Thursday.
