Cape Cod Healthcare Expanding Hours For Vaccine Clinics

Hospital officials said the expansion includes coronavirus vaccine appointments in the evening and on weekends.

HYANNIS, MA — Cape Cod Healthcare announced its expanding the hours for its first dose coronavirus vaccine clinics, beginning the first week of May.

Hospital officials said the expansion includes hours in the evening and on weekends. Initial May appointments will be available as follows:

  • 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Sunday, May 3
  • Noon to 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 5

The expanded vaccine hours come as Cape Cod health officials struggle to find enough people to fill vaccine appointments.

Fifty-nine percent of Cape Codders have received at least one vaccine dose. Forty-one percent are fully vaccinated, but getting the rest of the region's residents vaccinated has proven difficult, according to State Sen. Julian Cyr (D-Truro).

Cyr said 17 percent of Cape Cod residents are children and teens who do not qualify for the vaccine yet. He also said some adults are still hesitant about getting the shot.

"It's going to be harder in many ways than what we've had previously," Cyr said Thursday during a news briefing with the Cape Cod COVID-19 Response Task Force.
