Commissioner Beaty Condemns Provincetown Attack Upon Adam Lange

PUBLIC STATEMENT BY COUNTY COMMISSIONER RON BEATY CONDEMNING YESTERDAY’S POLITICALLY MOTIVATED ATTACK IN PROVINCETOWN AGAINST CANDIDATE ADAM LANGE

At this time, I respectfully call upon all of our respective Cape Cod area political leaders from both the Republican Party and Democratic Party to join me in a resounding denouncement of the unhinged politically motivated “hate crime” that occurred in Provincetown yesterday against Cape & Islands Republican State Committee Candidate, Adam Lange.

All candidates should be safe to campaign in the communities that make up their District without fear of intimidation or assault.

The fact is both President Trump and Adam Lange are on the March 3rd Republican Presidential Primary Ballot in Provincetown, where this unprovoked act of vandalism occurred.

It is vitally important that voters hear from all candidates so they can then make an informed choice in the voting booth.

Silencing candidates you disagree with should not be part of our political process.

Through both the Massachusetts State Constitution and the U.S. Constitution, our nation’s founding fathers made sure to protect our precious right to free speech, not just for the majority of citizens, but just as importantly, for the minority as well.

Yesterday's unprovoked attack against Mr. Lange could conceivably have heinous consequences for the cherished First Amendment Rights of us all.

It does not represent who we are as a people, nor the welcome community that Cape Cod and the Islands is known for.

This despicable act of localized terrorism needs to be forthrightly and widely condemned by us all.
