Barnstable Fire Rescues Trapped Driver After Cement Truck Crash

A cement truck driver was hospitalized after Barnstable firefighters extricated him following a crash on Route 6.

BARNSTABLE, MA — Fire officials extricated a driver trapped inside a cement truck, following a crash on Route 6 in West Barnstable.

The crash happened around noon on Tuesday when the cement truck struck a tree. The driver was taken to the trauma center at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth with serious injuries.

Hyannis News reported that the cement mixer barrel was loaded with nearly 40,000 pounds of concrete before being detached from the truck during the crash.

There was also a diesel fuel leak that had to be dealt with while crews worked to remove the truck.
