Last Friendly's On Cape Cod Closes

With the Hyannis location closed, there are no more Friendly's restaurants on Cape Cod.

HYANNIS, MA — The Friendly's restaurant on Route 132 in Hyannis has closed, the last location on Cape Cod.

A company spokesperson told the Cape Cod times the financial devastation from the coronavirus pandemic forced the closure.

"With the coronavirus pandemic continuing to have a devastating impact across the restaurant industry, we made the very difficult decision to close the Friendly’s location in Hyannis,” a company spokesperson told the Cape Cod Times.

The closest remaining Friendlys' to Cape Cod require a trip over the Sagamore or Bourne Bridge. There are locations in Plymouth, Fall River, Pembroke and Weymouth.

Just two years ago, there were three Friendly's restaurants on Cape Cod. The Falmouth location on Davis Strait closed in 2019 and one at Sagamore Beach in Bourne shuttered in 2018 after repeated health violations.

Based in Wilbraham, MA, Friendly's has been forced to close locations over the last few years. According to the company website, there are now 153 restaurants left, down from 254 restaurants when it exited bankruptcy protection in 2012. At its peak, Friendly's operated 850 restaurants in 15 states.
