Man Accused Of Shooting MA Police Trooper Killed In Shootout

Andre Sterling was shot by U.S. Marshals in the Bronx in New York. Police said he shot a Massachusetts State Police trooper.

BRONX, NY — The man accused of shooting a Massachusetts State Police trooper in Hyannis last month was killed Friday morning in a shootout with U.S. Marshals in the Bronx in New York, authorities said.

Andre Sterling, 35, was killed around 5:30 a.m. near a Bronx apartment that members of a USMS New York/New Jersey Task Force tracked him to.

Two U.S. Deputy Marshals were injured in the shootout. They are expected to survive.

Four Massachusetts State Troopers were helping keep a perimeter for public safety.

Sterling was wanted after police said he shot Trooper John Lennon in the hand and torso during a Nov. 20 traffic stop. Lennon is recovering.
