Popular Cape Cod Ice Cream Shop Resurrected
The decades-old business closed in September but has since found a new home.
DENNIS, MA – A Cape Cod mainstay has a new lease on life. The Ice Cream Smuggler, located on Route 6A in Dennis for 40 years, closed last September amid a legal battle between the shop's founder and its current owners.
The shop will move into a former Bank of America at 1555 Route 6A, down the road from its original location, the Cape Cod Times reported. The new ice cream parlor will seat 35 people.
Last year, Smuggler owners Carter and Paul Catalano lost a legal battle with Patricia Hasset, who owned the property and built the shop in 1979, according to the Times. The Catalanos claimed Hasset leased the property to a new ice cream shop without telling them.

"Wondering if it’s safe to open up your last Smuggler quarts? It depends on how well you can pace yourself," the business wrote on Facebook this week. "The good news is that we are one step closer to opening this season. We will share details when they are certain and we have them but for now please know we are working very hard to celebrate our 41st season with our amazing customers!"
