Regal Cinemas On Cape Cod Close Again Amid Coronavirus

The release of the new "James Bond" movie getting delayed put the theater chain in an even bigger hole.

HYANNIS, MA — Cineworld Group is closing all its Regal Cinemas theaters across the country, including its Cape Cod locations in Hyannis and Mashpee.

The nationwide shutdowns happened as a response to "an increasingly challenging theatrical landscape and sustained key market closures" during the coronavirus pandemic, a company spokesperson said in a statement.

Just days earlier, the newest James Bond movie was postponed until spring, the latest major movie delay to cripple theater chains.

Regal Cinemas started opening late in the summer, but weren't able to sustain operations. The theaters are going to close as early as Thursday. Cineworld did not say when they would reopen.

"Cineworld will continue to monitor the situation closely and will communicate any future plans to resume operations in these markets at the appropriate time, when key markets have more concrete guidance on their reopening status and, in turn, studios are able to bring their pipeline of major releases back to the big screen, CEO Mooky Greidinger said in a statement.
