Route 6 Bridge In Dennis Remains Closed After Truck Crash
The bridge was damaged when it was struck by a tractor-trailer that couldn't fit underneath. Two Brewster residents were injured.
DENNIS, MA — The Old Bass River Bridge on Route 6 will remain closed for the foreseeable future after sustaining serious damage when a tractor-trailer driving underneath struck the bridge Friday night. Officials from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation said an engineering analysis is being conducted to assess options for repairing the bridge.
According to state officials, two of the bridge beams were severed, so a lot of work needs to be completed before the bridge can be partially or fully re-opened. State officials estimated the engineering analysis will be completed by mid-week.
"Full repairs to the bridge will be challenging due to the bridge structure being comprised of steel reinforced concrete beams, restrictions due to winter weather conditions and the close proximity to the Route 134, exit 9 interchange," state transportation officials said in a statement."
