Town Officials Call Off Hyannis Marathon, Race Offers No Refund
The recent record-breaking snowfall in Massachusetts can add "canceling the Hyannis Marathon" to its resume.

Runners planning to run the Hyannis Marathon this weekend should cancel their pre-race carbo-load.
The Hyannis Marathon, scheduled for this upcoming Sunday, Feb. 22, has been canceled due to the current snowfall and the expected weather conditions for this weekend.

“I was informed this afternoon that the top Town of Barnstable officials including Police, Fire and DPW met and decided that the town roads and parking would not be safe or adequate for a large event and that this years event would have to be canceled,” said marathon officials in a statement on the Hyannis Marathon website.
According to The Weather Channel, Saturday night is expected to bring snow showers that will turn into freezing rain and Hyannis may see half an inch of rainfall on Sunday.

The race event planned to feature guest appearances from Billy Rodgers, Olympian and four-time Boston and New York City Marathon champion, and Robert J. “Bob” Hodge, Lowell native who placed third in the 1979 Boston Marathon, the Hyannis Marathon website reports.
The Hyannis Marathon is a Boston Marathon Qualifier, with a 6-hour course time limit.
There will not be a reschedule date. Runners will not receive a refund, The Cape Cod Times reported.
Those who have registered for the race can check their emails for a message from the event director.
