Donald Trump 'Compliment' Sounds a Whole Lot Like Elizabeth Warren's
But we feel like he might have meant his a little differently.
ST. LOUIS, MO — An aggressive and often ugly presidential town hall ended on a relatively upbeat note Sunday night, with moderators "sneaking in" one last, lighter question: "Could you say something nice about your opponent?" Donald Trump's response regarding Hillary Clinton might even sound familiar to many in Massachusetts.
"I can say this about Hillary," Trump said. "She doesn't quit. She doesn't give up. I respect that."
It was the last word in a night of bitter debate, where Trump at times said Clinton had "tremendous hate in her heart" and would be prosecuted, should he be elected president.

But when called on to offer a compliment, Trump sounded a whole lot like Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a Clinton supporter and surrogate whose late-coming endorsement this spring took a similar tact:
"(Clinton's) a fighter... she's tough. And I think this is what we need. ... For 25 years, she's been taking (attacks from Republicans) ... And what does she do? A lot of people would just hang up their spurs, they'd say, 'You know? I've had enough.' But she doesn't. What she does, is she gets back up and she gets back in the fight."

That's been an ongoing theme for Warren as she stumps for Clinton across the country, as she's feuded on social media with Trump and even as she spoke at the Democratic National Convention this summer.
However, there's a decided difference in tone, if not in words.
Trump's "compliment" followed an arguably underhanded answer by Clinton at Sunday night's Town Hall, opting to commend Trump on his children, rather than his own personal qualities.
"I consider her statement about my children to be a very nice compliment," Trump said, before offering his answer. "I don't know if it was meant to be a compliment, but it is."
He seems to have responded in kind.
Intention aside, the similarities didn't escape Warren's notice, and she didn't miss the chance to trumpet the fact. She tweeted Sunday:
I agree with @realDonaldTrump: @HillaryClinton is a fighter. She's dealt with bullies like Donald for 25+ yrs & she never gives up. #debate
