Revere Rejects Latest Gaming Referendum

The first hurdle tripped up advocates for Question 1, who want a second slots parlor license in Massachusetts.

REVERE, MA — The first hurdle for proponents of a new slots parlor in Revere met a stumbling block while trying to cross their first hurdle Tuesday, met by a decisive "no" in a local, special election seen as the test-run for a statewide ballot initiative up for a vote this November.

It's a vote forwarded by the same developer, Eugene McCain, who is pushing a statewide ballot initiative that would allow Massachusetts to license a second slots parlor. His eyes are on a parcel of land near Suffolk Downs.

According to WGBH, a local vote granting him exclusive rights to any new gaming license granted to a Revere-based operator failed 2-to-1 Tuesday night in town referendum. Read more from WGBH here.
