This month our Collection Spotlight is an item in honor of the anniversary of the Boston Massacre, which occurred on March 5, 1770. This pamphlet was published for the November 14, 1888 dedication ceremony of the monument to Crispus Attucks, Samuel Maverick, James Caldwell, Samuel Gray and Patrick Carr – the five victims of the massacre. The monument is referred to alternatively as the Boston Massacre Monument and the Crispus Attucks Monument. Attucks, a man of African and Native American descent, is widely considered to be the first casualty of both the Boston Massacre and the American Revolution.
