Welcome to your Weekend Agenda for Beacon Hill where we highlight several events happening in the neighborhood and nearby this coming weekend.
Here's what we've got for you for the weekend of Aug. 9-11:
CHARLES RIVER RUMMAGE
BeCause Water is inviting the public to join them Saturday for the second annual Charles River Rummage, a kayak competition aimed at cleaning up the river and awarding a cash prize. It runs from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and starts across the river at Charles River Canoe & Kayak's Kendall Location in Cambridge.Â
BULFINCH BIRTHDAY BASH
Boston By Foot is hosting a special event this weekend to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of famed American architect Charles Bulfinch, who was responsible for many of the prominent buildings around Beacon Hill such as the State House. The tour starts at 3 p.m. Sunday and costs $15 ($5 for members).
TAX-FREE WEEKEND IN MASSACHUSETTS
A reminder this weekend is going to be sales tax-free for businesses in Beacon Hill and throughout the Commonwealth. Some items are not within the bounds of the tax exemption though, including any single item sold for more than $2,500. Also products such as tobacco, gasoline, meals and utilities will not be sold tax-free.
RED LINE DIVERSION
Also if you are planning on using the Red Line as part of your travel to or from Beacon Hill this weekend, shuttle buses will be replacing trains from Kendall/MIT to Park Street Saturday and Sunday.
