Bedford PMC Kids Ride

PMC Kids Rides became an official PMC program in 2005 as a way to include young cyclists in the Pan-Mass Challenge mission

PMC Kids Rides became an official PMC program in 2005 as a way to include young cyclists in the Pan-Mass Challenge mission raising money for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. The program engages youth in philanthropy, instills the value of working for the benefit of others, and promotes athletic fitness and physical activity.

The PMC Kids Rides Program offers children, parents, and neighbors an opportunity to work together to create individual bike-a-thons in neighborhoods, at schools, or in business complexes. These rides enable children between the ages of 3 and 15 to ride their bikes and solicit sponsors to donate money to cancer research.

Welcome to the PMC Bedford Kids Ride!

Grab your bikes and join over 450 kids from Bedford and surrounding towns to ride in support of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and its Jimmy Fund. This is Bedford’s 11th PMC Kids Ride and thanks to our riders and sponsors we have raised just shy of one million dollars to date. Events like the PMC Kids Ride gives everyone an opportunity to fight back against a disease that takes so much, at so many ages, while simultaneously stressing the importance of raising funds to find a cure for all cancers. We look forward to seeing you there!

ROUTES:

Choose a route that is right for you: Wally’s Way, an obstacle course for tykes on trikes; Yawkey Way, a 1/2 mile route on the premises and perfect for kids on training wheels; Green Monster, a 3 mile ride for young adventurous riders; Big Papi, a 6 mile ride for more experienced riders; Big Papi Slam; a 10 mile ride for those who want a real challenge; and Fenway, a 12 mile off-road route that travels the rail bed to Concord (must be entering 6th grade). See route maps for more detail. Riders will be placed in groups of 10-12 riders with an adult volunteer leader and sweep. Water stops are set-up along the routes and volunteers and police offers will be out on the road to cheer on the riders and keep them safe. Be sure to print out the route map to practice the route prior to Ride day. Remember the rules of the road: ride to the right side of the road with traffic (roads are open during the event), be sure to give yourself enough space between other riders, call out to the riders behind you or use hand signals when turning or stopping, ride slow and in control. All riders including adults are required to wear a helmet. Go PMC kids!
