Bedford Police, Residents Honored in May 3 Awards Ceremony
The Bedford Police Dept. held its second annual awards ceremony May 3.

Civilian Service Citations were given to two people during the Bedford Police Dept.'s second annual awards ceremony on May 3, which recognizes positive actions taken by police officers and community members, according to a press release. Ten police officers were also awarded for their service.
Daniel Carroll was awarded for his service following Hurricane Sandy in October 2012. Carroll organized Bedford police officers and collected food, water and clothing from Bedford residents to take to those affected by the storm in New Jersey.
The second awardee was Jameson Rooney, who called 911 when his mother was experiencing a medical emergency. Rooney followed the instructions of emergency personnel while staying calm in the face of an emergency.

Four Bedford police officers were awarded Departmental Certificates of Commendation for outstanding and distinguished performance of police duty, according to the press release.
- Officer Jeffrey French: successfully confiscated more than a half pound of marijuana and more than $2,300 in cash following a car stop.
- Officer Michael Sullivan: after a month-long investigation with members of the Southern Middlesex Regional Task Force, arrested a Bedford resident charged with trafficking a controlled substance, 270 Oxycodone pills.
- Sergeant Jeffrey Wardwell and Officer Richard Vitale: apprehended a person wanted in a breaking and entering in Lexington. The suspect fled into Bedford and was later became combative while being arrested.
The department's Team Spirit Awards was presented to: Officer Kristen Dineen. "Officer Dineen displays leadership and teamwork that is essential to the accomplishment of our mission to the maintenance of public safety," according to the press release.

Special Service Awards: Sergeant Patrick Towle, Sergeant Jeffrey Wardwell, Officer Thomas Devine and Emergency Communications Officer Jeffrey Vinciulla, for their work responding to the horrific events in Boston and Watertown.Â
Officer of the Year Award for 2012: Officer Marc Saucier. "Officer Saucier has consistently displayed sound judgment and the highest quality of service as a Police Officer and a creative problem solver," according to the press release. "Officer Saucier affirmatively promotes and supports the mission of the Bedford Police Department as he performs police service as a Patrol Officer, Information Technology Officer, Traffic Enforcement Officer and as a member of the department’s motorcycle unit. He is truly proven to be an asset to the Bedford Police Department on a daily basis.The Bedford Police Department would like to honor and thank all the above individuals for putting our community first."
