Flags at Half-Staff to Honor Fallen Officer

Flags on government buildings fly at half-staff on Monday to honor Officer Ronald Tarentino, who was shot and killed in the line of duty.

BEDFORD, MA - Flags are flying at half-staff from sunrise until sunset in honor of Ronald Tarentino, the Auburn police officer who was killed in the line of duty over the weekend.

Governor Charlie Baker ordered the flags at half-staff, and it applies to:

  • The main or adminstration building of each public institution of the Commonwealth, e.g. town and city halls
  • Other state-owned or state-controlled buildings
  • All state military installations

Tarentino, 42, was shot at approximately 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning during a traffic stop in Auburn. The suspect, identified as Jorge Zambrano, 35, of Worcester, is dead following a standoff in Oxford, just south of Auburn, later that day.

A memorial fund has been set up to honor Tarentino, who grew up in Tewksbury, and served on Leicester and Auburn Police Departments.
