MCC Business Start-Up Certificate Offers Funding Opportunities

Enrollment is still open for MCC's innovative Launch Your Business Now certificate program. Spring courses begin Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019.

Enrollment is still open for Middlesex Community College’s innovative Launch Your Business Now, an applied-entrepreneurship certificate program designed to encourage students to start or grow a business. Registration is ongoing and spring-semester courses begin Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019.

Developed for entrepreneurs who have an idea for a business they want to launch – or scale up – within four to 12 months, Launch Your Business Now also incorporates an opportunity to be awarded seed money and mentoring through the Everyday Entrepreneurs Venture Fund to help promising start-ups get off the ground.

“Students enrolled in this certificate program will be encouraged to pitch their business plans to the funding committee of the Everyday Entrepreneurs Venture Fund (EEVF),” explained Franky Descoteaux, EEVF Program Coordinator. “EEVF will award seed money in the form of competitive grants (ranging from $1,000 to $20,000) to support student businesses.”

This 16-credit entrepreneurship certificate program is ideal for students with innovative and conventional business ideas. “We’ve designed it for anyone who wants to start a business – and especially those looking to scale a current business,” added Descoteaux.

Through coursework, and workshops offered via MCC’s IDEA Center, students enrolled in the 16-week program will evaluate market opportunity, test assumptions, and set up systems to successfully launch a business. Those systems include bookkeeping, marketing strategies, sales principles, operations and financing.
