MCC Hosts Free Screening of ‘Beale Street’ Followed by Discussion
FREE screening of "If Beale Street Could Talk" & panel discussion on criminal-justice reform – Tuesday, April 30, Lowell campus

Middlesex Community College will host a FREE screening of the 2019 Academy Award-winning movie “If Beale Street Could Talk,” followed by a panel discussion on criminal-justice reform, at 3 p.m. (screening) and 5 p.m. (panel) Tuesday, April 30, in the Academic Arts Center Theatre, 240 Central St., on the Lowell campus.
Based on the novel by James Baldwin, “If Beale Street Could Talk” is set in early-1970s Harlem. It’s a love story about a couple’s unbreakable bond and the African-American family’s empowering embrace. The young people at the center of the story have their future plans derailed when the man is arrested for a crime he did not commit.
The panel discussion on criminal-justice reform following the screening will feature:

- Mona Igram, Youth Advocacy Division Attorney in Charge, Committee for Public Counsel Services
- Radha Natarajan, Executive Director of the New England Innocence Project
- Fred Clay, a Lowell resident who was wrongfully incarcerated for 38 years
