“From the beginning of this investigation, our investigators have been fully committed to determining exactly how Mikayla’s promising life ended. Mikayla’s death is an unspeakable tragedy for her loved ones and the entire community,” said District Attorney Ryan. “We know that is difficult and we are working on getting answers, but we must get there in a way that does not compromise the integrity of this investigation.”

To date that investigation has included conducting witness interviews, forensic analysis of cell phone data and a review of other available evidence, including video surveillance. While the investigation remains open, some facts can be confirmed at this time.  Below is a timeline of the events based on the preliminary investigation.

“Let me make one thing clear: nothing can bring back Mikayla or console her grieving family. But what we can do - indeed what we owe her - is an accurate and fulsome accounting of what led to her death. You have my word as your District Attorney and as a mother, that I will deliver that answer. But the public must give us time to find the answers” said District Attorney Ryan. “Lastly, in accordance with that pledge, I want to make another promise: when this investigation concludes, I will, with the permission of the family, release every shred of legally releasable information on our website for all to see and review. You have my absolute word on that. I have long recognized that a fair investigation requires two ingredients: A thorough and unbiased inquiry and public confidence in that inquiry. I assure you that both will be delivered in Mikayla’s case.”
