Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian (left) recently welcomed Peter Robinson (second from left), nephew of late Middlesex Jail Master David S. Robinson to the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction in Billerica to visit the memorial honoring those sworn and civilian members who have passed while in service to the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office.  This year marks the 60th anniversary of Jail Master Robinson’s murder.

A native of Concord, Mass., Jail Master Robinson was killed while attempting to prevent an escape at the Middlesex Jail in Cambridge on Mother’s Day (May 14) 1961.  Jail Master Robinson was shot and fatally wounded by two men awaiting trial for murder, including one who was charged with the September 3, 1960 murder of Cambridge Police Officer Lawrence W. Gorman.
