Minuteman Bikeway Extension Project In Bedford Hits Major Milestone

The project, which began in 2005 with an initial feasibility study, recently hit a major milestone in the design process.

November 24, 2020

The Minuteman Bikeway Extension project extends the popular rail trail from its terminus at Bedford’s Depot Park an additional 2.3 miles to the Bedford/Concord town line. The project, which began in 2005 with an initial feasibility study, recently hit a major milestone in the design process. On October 30th, 75% Design Plans were submitted by the Town’s consultant to MassDOT for review. The updated plans further refine technical aspects of the project, and incorporate feedback received at the February, 2020 25% Design Public Hearing and from Bedford’s Transportation and Bicycle Advisory Committees. For additional information and to view the plans, please visit the DPW website.

Construction is paid for through state and federal Transportation Improvement Project funds, and is anticipated to begin in 2023. Next steps include incorporating feedback received by MassDOT, securing necessary easements from project abutters, environmental permitting, and developing final construction plans.
