During the interview process, the Select Board noted the decision between DeStafano and Haley was tough but thought the department would benefit best with both in leadership roles. The Select Board suggested Haley takes over as assistant fire chief and that the role be re-examined to better fit and accentuate Haley's skills.
DeStefano has been with the North Providence Fire Department for over 30 years. He has experience as an instructor at the Rhode Island Fire Academy and authored pieces for fore service publications and manuals.
