Belmont Weather Alert: Hail, Strong Winds, Thunderstorms Expected Thursday

Hail, high winds, showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected for the region Thursday afternoon into late Thursday night.

BELMONT, MA - Enjoy the warm temperatures and singing birds this morning because things are going to change a lot over the next several hours.

Hail, high winds, showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected for the region Thursday afternoon.

The National Weather Service says the showers and storms will bring locally strong wind gusts between 40 to 50 miles per hour and produce small hail. The strongest threat for these storms is between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. Thursday.

Not every area will be impacted, but everyone should be prepared, NWS says. The storms and showers will develop in the mid to late afternoon hours on Thursday. Heavier showers will be capable of producing small hail and brief 40 to 50 mph wind gusts with or without lightning. There is also the a low risk possibility for an isolated wind gust or two of up to 60 miles per hour.

The main time frame for concern is between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. Thursday. The NWS is warning residents if they have outdoor activities planned for Thursday afternoon or Thursday night to be prepared for the potential of briefly strong wind gusts, hail and lightning, and if necessary to seek indoor shelter.
