Belmont World Film Holds 15th Annual International Film Series
Belmont World Film celebrates 15 years with ten films from the world's top international film festivals, and thought-provoking discussions.
Belmont World Film celebrates 15 years with ten films from the world’s top international film festivals, thought-provoking discussions, cultural performances, and ethnic cuisine from March 21-May 15. The series, To Have and Have Not, sheds light on the growing inequalities of wealth, class, race, and gender that affect society today.
All but one film are New England premieres from countries in Europe, South America, Asia, and Africa. Several are also their countries’ submissions to the Academy Awards’ Best Foreign Language Film, such as LAMB from Ethiopia, which submitted its first film ever; it was also the first Ethiopian film in competition at the Cannes Film Festival. In an industry that is currently under fire for lacking in female diversity, an astonishing one-third of the films are directed by women. Since this year's summer Olympics take place in Brazil, the festival features two films from the country in a spotlight section created with the help of the Consulate General of Brazil in Boston.
Screenings take place on Mondays at 7:30 PM at the Studio Cinema in Belmont, except for two screenings at the West Newton Cinema on April 11 and 18, and two Sunday screenings on April 17 and May 15.
